KC Metro (9/30/17) An unusual thing happened at the KC Metro meet this year, every girl that competed ran a season best. As a matter of fact, everyone lowered their best time by at least 16 seconds. The biggest drop was made by freshman Raegan Monroe. Raegan took 3:00 off her season best. Many girls ran not only season bests but also all-time bests. Congratulations to all.

Maryville University (9/23/17) The varsity runners traveled to St. Louis for the Maryville University Invitational held on the grounds at Six Flags. It was also hot there. Both teams competed well, placing 2nd. The varsity was led by Lily's 5th place finish. All the varsity runners placed in the top 25. The jv was led by Kelsey, who also placed 5th. Like the varsity, all the jv runners were in the top 25.

Grandview Invitational (9/21/17) The jv runners represented Sion at the Grandview meet this year. The story of the day was the heat. It was hot enough that the meet director decided to cut the length of the jv race. Therefore, they only ran about 2.5K (2,500 meters). We had four girls earn medals. Leading the way was Riley Heit with a 16th place finish with Emily Weians less than a second behind her in 17th place. Also medaling were Anna Frerker and Clare Lappin, placing 19th and 20th, respectively. Mary Hudak (25th ) and Raegan Monroe (26th) were the next Sion finishers. Olivia Dopheide was 40th and Nia Austin was 60th. The team placed 4th.

Blue Springs Invitational (9/16/17) We had a great day as a team in our second 5k of the year. The varsity and jv teams both placed 2nd. The jv team was led by Abby DeLong, who was the individual champion posting a time of 23:19 on the relatively hilly course. Others getting medals in the jv race were; Kelsey Wilcoxson (4th), Dillan Elmquist (10), and Ally Crumb (19). Katie DeLong was the team's fifth scorer in 30th place. The varsity team was led by Lily Henkle's 3rd place finish. All six varsity runners received a medal; Brenna Richart (15th), Gretta Allen (16th), Nina Trouve (17th), Maddie Young (18th) and Rose Orrick (24th). While this course was definitely more challenging than last week's, we had three girls run faster this week; Abby, Riley and Kelsey. Special congratulations go out to Katie DeLong and Emily Weians for competing in their first races of the year.

Ray-Pec Invitationa (9/9/17) We had a great showing. The varsity, led by Lily's 24th place finish, was 8th out of 16 team in the large school division. All the varsity runners that ran here last year improved their time. Maddie and Brenna each improved by over 2 minutes. The jv only ran 4, so they did not have a complete team to score. In her first high school 5k, freshman Dillan Elmquist led the jv team with a 16th place finish running 23:18. Like the varsity, all the jv runners that ran here last year, ran faster this year. Most improved was Ally, running over 3 minutes faster this year. Others running their first high school 5k include: Abby DeLong, Mary Hudak, Raegan Monroe and Nia Austin. Overall, the Storm competed very well. Next week we travel to Lake Jacomo for the Blue Springs Invitational.

Liberty Invitational (9/2/17) We had a great first meet. The weather was fantastic this year (no earthquake). As always, the younger girls started the day off in the C-Team race. We had 6 runners in this race. Freshman Abby DeLong won the race in a time of 15:24. She was followed by fellow freshman Dillan Elmquist, who placed 3rd in a time of 16:15. Sophomore Anna Frerker was 41st in 18:4, Freshman Raegan Monroe placed 55th with a time of 19:07. Mary Hudak ran 19:11 which was good enough for 56th place. Sophomore Nia Austin, in her first cross country race, place 84 with a time of 23:55.

There were 4 competitors in the jv race this year. Kelsey Wilcoxson placed 15th with a time of 16:18, Ally Crumb placed 29th with a time of 17:35, Clare Lappin was 41st in a time of 19:22 and Molly Conway placed 43rd with a time of 20:21.

The varsity consisted of 5 runners. Lily Henkle placed 12th with a time of 14:36, Brenna Richart placed 31st with a time of 15:46, Gretta Allen was 33rd in 15:51, Maddie Young ran 15:53 for a 35th place finish and Nina Trouve placed 37th in 15:59.

Almost all the girls ran faster this year than they did last year at this meet. The most improved included: Maddie was 1:06 faster, Brenna improved by 1:13, Kelsey was 1:40 faster, Clare brought her time down by 1:48, Anna improved by 2:21. The biggest improvement goes to Ally with a 2:21 improvement over last year. Congratulations to all who competed.
