10/31/20 Class 3 District 7. The weather was perfect (sunny and 47°), the course was flat with good footing for the district championship. The Storm Harriers stepped up and captured their first district championship since 2013. The Storm placed three runners in the top ten. Senior Abby DeLong had a great race, running her best time ever, placing 4th. Freshman Evelyn Overlease, also running her best time ever, placed 9th. Freshman Grace St. Peter also placed in the top 10 by taking 10th place. Junior Kate Lovick was just a few seconds out ot the top 15, placing 16th. Senior Dillan Elmquist placed 18th. Sophomore Megan Kelley was 21st. Alternate junior Anna Baklanov did a great job of stepping at the last minute placing 49th. Congratulations Class 3 District 7 Champions. On to the State Championship.

10/21/20 Richmond Invitational. We ended the regular season at Richmond and recognized our seniors, Abby DeLong, Dillan Elmquist and Mary Hudak. Big shout out to all three of them, they’ve all been part of the cross country program for 4 years. The weather turned out to be nearly perfect (48° with a light mist) after a down pour in the morning. The varsity team, led by Abby, placed all seven runners in the top 12 easily winning the team title. Abby placed second with a season best of 21:19. The rest of the team all had strong performances. The jv team, led by Anna Baklanov, won the jv division. Congratulations to all who ran their last meet of the year at Richmond. The rest of us are looking forward to competing at the Class 3 District 7 meet in Lamar on Halloween.

10/15/20 Warrensburg Invitational. The penultimate regualar season meet turned out to be nice and cool. We ran on a new course and based on the times the girls liked it. We had ten girls run their season best. On to the last meet before districts, the Richmond Invitational on Wednesday.

10/10/20 Kearney Invitational. It was really foggy when we got to the course but the sun came out and burned the fog away as the varsity girls were getting ready to run. Kearney is a pretty tough course, not a lot of runners run their fastest time there. However, we had two girls run their season best today. Freshman Evelyn Overlease and freshman Tessa Thompson. Congratulations to all who competed. On to Warrensburg on Thursday.

10/6/20 Excelsior Springs Invitational. The weather got a little and the course was a little hilly. The varsity placed 2nd behind Christ Prep and the JV placed 3rd. In the varisty race we had two runners place in the top ten, Abby was 5th and Grace was 9th.

10/3/20 KC Classic (Metro) We had beautiful weather once again. While they didn’t run all the teams together, we were in a very competitive wave. Seven girls ran their season best, including Evelyn Overlease running in her first high school race.

9/24/20 Grandview Invitational. It was a little warmer and the course was not a flat as our first three meets. The competition was fantastic and best of all, there were not waves.

9/19/20 Kris Solsberg Invitational. Everything came together for us in our third meet of the year. The weather was perfect (53° and low humidity), the course was flat and the race was very competitive which resulted in good races from everyone. Congratulations to every single runner this morning, everyone ran a season best and most ran an all-time best.

9/12/20 Ray-Pec Invitational. The second meet brought a new experience in cross country, heats against time. The weather was great but it was strange competing against only 4 other teams and then having our race combined with a later ‘wave’. However, the girls for the most part are dealing with the situtation very well. We ended up placing 3rd overall in the varsity. The jv girls placed 1-6 because they, unfortunately, didn’t have anyone to compete with. From an individual perspective, 10 of the 12 girls running today ran faster than they did last week in Liberty. Looking forward to being able to compete next week at Lee’s Summit North in the Kris Solsberg Invitational.

9/5/20 Tim Nixon Invitational. We had great weather (maybe a little warm) for our first meet of the season. Unfortunately, due to Covid restrictions, there were no spectators allowed on the course to watch. Everyone ran in the same race. Freshman Grace St. Peter had a great first race, she was the individual champion. Congratulations to Grace. Abby DeLong had a great race placing 5th while Dillan Elmquist was 10. The Storm placed two more runnings in the top 20, Tess Thompson (19th) and Megan Kelley (20th). Other finishers: Kate Lovick (20th), Lauren Smith (31st), Anna Baklanova (34th), Abby Pantaenius (35th), Liv Zender (36th), Sofia Aguayo (37th) and Angela DeFlorio (39th). Looking forward to heading to Ray-Pec next weekend.

The weather for the time trial was very cool (71°) but it was ‘Stormy”. Looking forward to our first meet (the Tim NIxon Invitational) next week.
